Angelisha Rodgers

You recall the trumpet player “The Trumpetess,” miss Angelisha Rodgers? Well her and her precious daughter are currently floating and without their own dwelling place and can use some financial assistance from friends, family and colleagues. Angelisha has impressed me and others to be a good down home country girl, gifted to the gills, with not only talent, but also love and the spirit of giving. Prior to our last show together at Tank theater, she had the baby and there was much post post-natal care which had her in and out of the hospital and could not work.

Observing that she was a new single mother, with several months of not working, I called her to ask her how she was holding up financially. Being the proud young lady that she is and not wanting to burden people with her problems, her response was “I am holding.” At that time, I accepted her answer to be the same filtered answer most prideful people would give. I had another opportunity to speak with her again, in person, at Tank Theater, and it was during the time we were celebrating the closing of our show, I was able to extract the gravity of her circumstance.

In the rich tradition of our music being used for “Rent Parties,” we hope you will join us in this benefit concert to assist a beloved sister and fellow musician. Should the spirit move you to “do this – like we knew this” – please know that your time, your talents, your donations will not only assist a person we know to have good will and good cheer, but also, it would help to give stability to a little soul, who just came into this world and will definitely feel your love.

If anyone knows of a job, situation, Angelisha has earned her Master degree in music and currently works part time for “Jazz at Lincoln Center.” As you already know, it is hard to get a toe-hold in the “Big Apple” with a full time job, let alone part time with no bennies. We believe her to be a person worthy of receiving a leg up and we hope you do too.
